Mission2030 – a Letter

Dear Catholics of the Prelature of Trondheim,
dear sisters and brothers,

The first Sunday of Advent introduces a new liturgical year. A new year invites us to make fresh plans. I’d like to tell you about a project I hope will be a blessing for our prelature. It bears the name Mission2030 and wishes to help us prepare for the millennium, in 2030, of St Olav’s martyr’s death at Stiklestad.

For us Christians, this preparation is first and foremost a matter of living integrally the faith Olav professed, by which he lived and for which he died. I invite you to consider the time leading up to 2030 as a time for mission: by virtue of our baptism we are all sent out as witnesses to the grace we have received. We wish to communicate that grace through prayer and liturgy, through a culture of vocation, through catechesis, and through charitable work.

Mission2030 will be formally launched in Eastertide next year. Until that time you can find more information on the website we have set up. I hope that during each year from now until 2030 we can focus on a specific theme that will be presented at a conference in spring; that we can help each other appreciate the ‘breadth and length and depth and height’ of our faith (Eph 3.18), a great responsibility and a great blessing.

Today I also wish to announce that our deacon Florian Pletscher will be ordained a priest in St Olav’s Cathedral, Trondheim on the eve of Pentecost, 18 May 2024. Pray for Florian — and pray that the Lord may awaken new, solid vocations to consecrated life and ministry among our young people.

I pray for you all with great gratitude and wish you a blessed Advent.

Come, Lord Jesus!
