Symposion

Sebastian Morello began his series of Symposia last year with a markedly constructive intention, noting that

an unfortunate temptation for intellectual conservatism is that of only ever reacting against those forces of so-called ‘progress’ which aim to repudiate the civilisation that conservatives cherish. The imperative is not only to defend our civilisation but offer a positive case for the humane and meaning-driven future we want to build.

This is to make an option for the Logos and to go out looking for it wherever it chooses to be found in these strange times.

I was glad to welcome Sebastian and his crew to Trondheim earlier this year for an in-depth conversation about many interesting, urgent topics, the underlying question being ‘how to recover a coherent conception of the human person in the face of pervasive dehumanising ideologies’.

You can watch my conversation with Sebastian Morello (and follow a beautiful cinematic exploration of Trondheim) here.
